JACE

“The plane’s going to be ready tomorrow morning. We’re three hours behind time wise so make sure you have this shit planned down to the minute. I don’t want her anywhere near that asshole for longer than it takes to switch the glasses.”
“You looked him up?”
“What do you think? That sick fuck. Why don’t we let dad take him out?”
“Only you would speak so lightly about offing a senator, and one of his caliber at that.”
“I give a fuck, if that sick fuck is doing half the shit I uncovered he deserves to be taken down to the zoo and fed to the lions.”
“Can’t! I need to find out what’s going on with my sister and right now he’s my only lead.”
“Fine! Don’t forget what I said, half an hour and she’s out.”
“Uh Jace, maybe you should stay here.”
“You’re funny as fuck. So what do you think Valerie is up to?” We’d just left the girls in their class and headed up to ours. The tutor was due in ten minutes and there was a crew here working on setting up the new kitchen and a dining area for ten.
Track and I were off to the side, while the other three were talking rings and weddings and the upcoming trip. I got that itchy feeling again and could hear Sian’s annoying ass telling me to stay out of their business, but fuck if I am. Besides, she’s not here to get into my shit so what she doesn’t know can’t bug the hell outta me.
“How the fuck would I know? I’m starting to rethink letting her hang with your girl and her crew.”
“Why’s that?”
“She used to listen to me for one, now she questions shit and gives me the third degree.”
“You know what she had the nerve to say to me this morning? I better not go anywhere near Mandy. What the fuck ever gave her the idea that I was even thinking about that shit?”
“Maybe you talk in your sleep. As to her questioning you about shit, welcome to the club. All females are nosy as fuck. The thing for us to decide is what’s beneficial for them to know and what isn’t, but their nosy asses stay digging.”
“All I’m saying is, my girl wasn’t like that, and one weekend and this is what I come home to.”
“You ever stop to think she wasn’t showing you that side of herself because she was worried about you? That maybe she thought you had enough problems what with you being sent away every time you fucking blink?”
“I didn’t think about that. I’m still blaming your girl though.”
“Does she know what we’re doing tomorrow?”
“Nope, just you, me and Sian.”
“And my dad. I had to tell him some of what you told me if I want him to get you out of that place. I’m pretty sure your dad can handle it himself, but he’s taking too fucking long if that’s the case. You’re not going back. The fuck are you laughing at?”
“You, you’ve been this way since we were five. Remember this is how you and Stanley had that falling out? He was fucking with Shane and you lost your shit and gained an enemy for life. You find that fuck yet?”
“Nope, still looking.”
“Me neither.”
“What did you say?”
"Oh, nothing."
‘Track.”
“What?”
“What’re you up to?”
“Who says I’m up to anything?” Fucker can’t lie worth shit, or maybe it’s just that he has a problem lying to his best friend.

SIAN

One more time down the rabbit hole. It was the beginning of morning recess and already mom had sent me a text asking about the guest list for the wedding that I’m apparently not allowed to work on per Jace’s instructions.
I called her back with the names of the few friends from home that I’d like to invite though I didn’t know how that was going to work with such short notice. But, I should’ve known the answer I would get when I brought it up.
"Oh, Jace already took care of that hon. He's going to send the plane to pick them up. You just have to tell me who and I'll make the calls." I wonder how freaked she really is by all this.
She’s handling it pretty well, but she’s got to be thinking this is nuts. We have money sure, but we ain’t ever had the kind of money where we could send our private plane to pick up a few people on short notice. Nuts!
I try not to think about Jace’s family’s wealth, though all I have to do is look at my finger to be reminded, but he’s so laid back about it, it makes it easy to forget until something like this comes up of course.
After dealing with that madness, which took all of two minutes, I find myself looking out the classroom window at the other kids who were free to stretch their legs and get some fresh air because they weren’t engaged to maniacs who sent them a text that said. ‘Stay your ass inside, I got caught up in something this asshole tutor just said and can’t get away right now.’
