“Yes, that’s me,” she replied, now even more confused.
“I have a delivery for you from Yakov Seputre.”
“Oh, I see. Thank you.”
“Sign here, please.”
Aileen signed for the packages. Yakov was aware that she was moving into a new house and would be there off and on, she hadn’t wanted to jeopardize anything and discussed it with him prior to signing the lease. It had been his opinion that it would seem much more normal that she still has a house of her own rather than everything being in storage and was fine with her sorting it out when not on what he referred to as “official duty”.
She brought the box and bags inside, sitting them on the counter that ran between the kitchen and dining area before opening them. The largest box contained a dress. It was soft and flowing with a cowl neckline and belted waist. The color, a vivid red, was absolutely stunning. On top of it was a note that read “for tonight” and nothing else.
Aileen laughed out loud. It was typical for someone like Yakov. They had discussed what she should wear. He had said it should be something stunning that showed off her ample curves, but wasn’t too revealing. He hadn’t wanted her to come off as cheap, but also not frigid. The intent was for there to be no question as to how he could fall in love with her just from looking at her. Even if people didn’t take the time to get to know her, they would see her as a refined beauty.
Despite having told him she could dress appropriately to play that part, he had taken over and purchased what he wanted her to wear. He was controlling. It was no wonder he had to pay someone to pretend to love him. Still, he was paying her a lot of money to do so. Moving on to the bags, she found that he had also purchased shoes, nylons and jewelry. Hopefully, it would all fit well. She wanted to try it on, but the delivery people were due at any moment and there was no time.
Pulling the dress free of the box, she hung it up on a nearby coat hook inside the living room door and admired it. It was in her size and it was gorgeous. Either he had impeccable taste or had sent someone who did to purchase it, but something told her that Yakov Seputre wouldn’t have trusted this to anyone else any more than he had trusted her to dress herself. She tried on the shoes, a pair of matching red leather strappy wedges and found they fit perfectly, too.
Several hours later, Aileen was in possession of basic furniture and had managed to unpack a few boxes into dressers and the bathroom. So, at least, she had her personal items sorted out. Glancing at her watch, she was surprised to see how quickly time had gone by. It was already time to get ready for dinner. She took her time showering and drying her hair, letting the long brunette waves cascade down her back and over her shoulders.
Slipping into the dress, she stood in front of the full length mirror attached to the back of her bedroom door. It fit perfectly, as if it were tailor made just for her. She wondered how he had done such a perfect job of selecting the right size as she whirled about, letting the knee length full skirt whirl around her shapely legs. Though she wasn’t a skinny girl, she was lucky to have her extra weight distributed in classic hourglass fashion, with an ample bosom and backside, tapering in to a small waist.
She added the finishing touches by creating a smoky eye look with muted brown tones that complimented her hazel eyes, black eye liner and mascara - finishing it off with a hint of blush, highlighting powder and a brighter red lipstick. Using the hot brush she had unpacked, she smoothed her hair into sleek waves that fell across her back and shoulders. With only a few minutes left before Yakov would arrive to pick her up, she slipped on the shoes and simple silver and onyx necklace and earrings he had sent before taking one final look in the mirror.
She couldn’t have dressed herself more perfectly. For a moment, she considered what he must have looked like running around someone’s dress shop looking at dresses and barking orders at the clerks about what he wanted to see to go with what he had finally chosen. It was a comical vision, to say the least.
The sound of the bell rang and she went to answer it. Yakov stood here in a pair of dark jeans and a blue shirt that brought out the intensity of his deep blue eyes, his closely cropped black curls combed to perfection. He was breathtaking, but anything she might have felt about that was quickly dashed when he spoke.
