Despite it being New Year’s Eve—one of my most favorite holidays—my heart feels heavy knowing I’ve potentially lost something so precious. But I know Samson has plans for us tonight—plans that he’s put a lot of work into.
So, with one last look around for my lost necklace, I turn and head for the truck.
“No luck?” he asks, as I climb inside.
I shake my head and readjust the vents so the warm air is blowing my way.
“You’re killing me, Luna.” He casts a long look my way and throws the truck into gear. “Seeing you so sad is killing me.”
“Sorry,” I mutter, feeling even worse.
“Hey, no.” He settles his big, warm hand on my thigh and squeezes. “Don’t apologize to me.”
“But I lost—”
“It’ll turn up.” He sounds so damn sure of himself, but I can’t help but feel it’s lost for good. I tore his house apart looking for it.
Crossing my arms over my chest, I settle back into the seat. “I wish I had your confidence.”
Samson smirks. “It’ll be a New Year’s miracle.”
By the time we make it to our destination, I’m more confused than ever. “Why are we at my parents’ house?”
“Figured we’d ring in the new year somewhere special,” he says, giving nothing away.
“What does that even mean, Samson Carter?”
“It means, hush your mouth and let me surprise you.”
Whatever retort I may have had dies in the back of my throat when he turns down the drive that leads to my special spot. “We’re going to the tree.”
“We are.” He nods. “This place will always be special to me. It’s where you fell for me.”
“It’s where I fell, literally. From a freaking tree.”
“So desperate to get my attention, you flung yourself at me from the top of a damn tree.”
Laughing, I smack his chest. “You fool. I didn’t even know you.”
“Love at first sight,” he argues.
“I was eight.”
He throws the truck into park. “And?”
I shrug.
“Are you saying you didn’t love me the second you saw me? Don’t lie, Luna. This is a judgment free zone.”
“You’re an idiot.”
“I’m your idiot,” he says and my heart warms at his silly proclamation.
“So, why are we here?” I ask, once my laughter subsides.
“Figured since tonight is gonna be the first night of the rest of our lives together, we could ring in the new year somewhere special.”
“What?” I scrunch my nose. “What’s so special about tonight?”
Samson drums his fingers against the steering wheel. “You’ll see. But first, we eat.”
“What’s on the menu?”
“Let me grab the cooler from the bed and you’ll see.”
Somehow, he manages to run and grab the cooler before I can even fully process his words. He really did put a lot of thought into this.
As he unzips the soft top, the smell of barbecue fills the cab. “Did you get—”
“Purple Daisy?” He passes me a foil-wrapped plate. “Of course, I did. No nachos though, they don’t travel well.”
“This is amazing!” I tear the covering from my plate and dig into my quesadilla. “Thank you, Samson.”
His lips quirk up into a grin as he watches me chow down. “So ladylike.”
“Pssh.” I reach over and grab a piece of okra from his plate. “You love me.”
“I do, Stella. So, fucking much.”
We both fall quiet as we devour the barbecue feast before us. And once the last bite is gone, Samson says, “Hope you saved room for dessert.”
I sink back against my seat and pat my belly. “I don’t know. I’m pretty full.”
“Too full for a cupcake?” He reaches back into the cooler and pulls out a pumpkin cupcake.
“I’m never too full for this.” I greedily take the baked treat, and swipe my finger through the frosting, except before I can lick it off, Samson grabs my hand and closes his lips around my finger.
“Mmm,” he moans. “Tasty.”
Heat pools low in my belly, as I imagine his tongue licking the icing off of me instead.
Spurred on by the lust coursing through me, I swipe my finger through the frosting again, only this time, I smear it across his cheek and mouth.
“What the hell?” Samson laughs.
My lips tip up in a devilish smile as I lean forward and flick my tongue over his lips, licking away the cream cheese goodness.
He groans again, and I swear to God, the sound is a direct hit on my clit.
“You’re right.” I lick his cheek. “So tasty.”
“Playing with fire, Luna.”
I move back to my seat and gesture for him to slide to the middle of the bench. “Good thing I love the way you make me burn.”
“Stella.”
“Samson.” I pat the seat again. “Slide over here so I can put your dick in my mouth.”
“Fuck, Luna.” He moves over, working his belt buckle all the while.
I knock his hands out of the way. “It’s rude not to let a girl unwrap her gift.”
“Your gift?” He lifts a brow.
The whirr of his zipper sliding down fills the cab, and then I free him from his pants. I grip his dick and give it two slow pumps. “Heck yeah, my gift. This thing is a work of art.”
