There was a fantastic dance floor.

Along the side there were smaller alcoves with seating. The back wall had the bar and it was fully stocked. He knew because he’d asked when he made the call to get his and Violet’s names on the list.

Hastings paused as he entered and instinctively scanned the room. Looking for exits, weaknesses and more. But then the rest of the building vanished aside from the one woman he’d wanted to see more than anything.

Violet Wentz.

Emerald-green material covered her body in a way that should have been considered illegal. Her asymmetrical hemline stole his breath the moment he spied it. Tight, the material wound around her curves like a dream. It was high enough on the left side that her fingers reached past the material but the green trailed past her knee on the right.

Shoes the same color as the dress with a hint of what looked like black snakeskin along the back and heels pumped her up another four inches. God, his cock was going to declare mutiny on him. Violet stood at the bar talking to the man fixing her drink.

He moved, slipping through the crowd like a heat-seeking missile, not stopping until he reached her side. He breathed deep, drawing her scent into his lungs and soothing the beast within.

Sort of.

“Hey, Curls,” he whispered against her ear as he slid an arm around her, settling his hand on her hip. “I want to fucking tear this off you and fuck you.”

“Thank you,” she said to the bartender.

“Anytime, gorgeous.”

Hastings growled at him and the man scurried away.

He stared, mesmerized as she tipped up the drink. A low moan of pleasure rolled from her throat, and it coated his cock in titanium.

“God, I needed that.” She faced him, not pushing his proprietary hold off. “Why are we here, Mr. Rhodes?”

He yanked her closer, allowing her to feel the hard press of his cock against her. Her full breasts were about to pop free of their containment, and he wouldn’t have complained.

“I thought you’d like a night out. You’ve been doing so much.”

“Why here?”

He shrugged. “Why not? Don’t you like it?”

She took another sip of her drink. “I’m good with a corner bar, Mr. Rhodes. Flashy displays of money don’t sway me.”

He loved that about her. Taking her hand, he kissed the back of it and led her to a small spot he’d seen with some space. Also, it wasn’t in the main area. Light came from an intricate chandelier above, but they could still see some of the strobe lights from the dance floor if they glanced over. The music wasn’t as pounding now, and he walked her to the couch and sank down, bringing her with him.

Chapter Ten

Violet glanced at the others who were in the space. Most of the conversation had paused when they’d walked in. Introductions were made as she sat tucked up to Hastings.

“You two need drinks. We can’t be the only ones drinking here.” A tall blond waved his hand, jostling the brunette at his side, who was curled tightly to him. “Get them a round.”

She looked at Hastings, who seemed to be grimacing, or at least trying to hide that he was. Violet nibbled on her lower lip as she watched him stare ahead. With two fingers, she tapped his chest as she inched closer.

Her heart stuttered when he turned those deep graphite eyes on her. Chiseled features, beard, his nose, which obviously had been broken more than once in the past. He would be the perfect man for her, if not for the military fact.

“Yes?” He bent closer, eyes locked on her.

“Why are we sitting here with other couples?”

“Because I’m trying to do something with you before I do things to you.”

Holy shit. There went her panties. Not that the thong covered that much but damn…this man could get it.

She opened her mouth to state her usual denial and he shook his head.

“Go ahead and deny we’re happening, Curls, and I take you out of here now. Hand on that perfect ass of yours, I want to bite, as you’re hanging over my shoulders. Please.”

Violet swallowed and deliberately turned away from him, looking back at the people in there with them. People who, in her estimation, didn’t know how to handle the money they had.

I shouldn’t be so bitter. Or judgmental. And I need to rethink my no military men policy because fucking Christ, I want that man’s dick in me.

She danced, sipped her drink and talked with those around them. While she trusted Hastings, she didn’t know the others and she wasn’t a fan of drinking with people who didn’t have her trust. That was when things got dicey.

It was nice being snuggled up to his large, hard body. She may have her rules but she knew not a lot of guys were built like him. What she wasn’t a fan of was how the other women continued looking at him as if they were deciding how best to enjoy their treat.
