Chapter One
Cole
I tap my phone, and the screen lights up with the time. It’s been two hours since I spoke to my brother. He sounded wasted, so I stayed up to wait for his dumb ass. After an hour and a half of waiting in our suite, I walked down to the lobby and parked my ass on one of their comfy seats. And that’s where I’ve been since. I’m about to call him again when he stumbles in front of me, grabbing the back of my seat and leaning in extremely close. “Hey there, handsome.”
“Bishop, where the fuck have you been?” I bark out at him. “It’s almost one in the morning, and the wedding is tomorrow.”
He flops down on the seat next to me with an exaggerated grunt. Crossing his legs, he leans over, puts his elbow on the armrest, and cradles his chin with a sigh. “I’ve met the most beautiful woman in the world. I’m going to pick her up when the bar closes, and then I’m gonna fuck the shit out of her…and put a ring on her finger too.” He nods his head and wags a finger in my face as he slurs his words.
What the hell did this shithead get himself into? Swatting his hand away from my face before I lose my temper, I scold him, “You’re twenty-one, and not stable enough to marry anyone. Your inheritance doesn’t kick in for another two years, so you can’t afford a wife. Did you tell her that?”
He shrugs his shoulders and smiles. “I might have mentioned that I’d be rich in a couple of years because I have a huge trust coming, but she doesn’t care about money. She works at a bar, dude. She’s not after me for my money.” Damn, he’s drunk. Since when don’t people care about money—especially when they bust their ass for tips? I need to check this woman out before it’s too late. Even if she’s genuine, he’s too wasted to be asking a woman anything.
“What the hell are you thinking?” I snarl through clenched teeth. Thankfully the lobby is pretty empty, or we’d have an unwanted audience.
“She has pretty eyes and nice tits.” He bites his bottom lip envisioning this woman with a faraway look in his eyes. “I’m in love.”
I roll my eyes. “Come on. Let’s go upstairs.” I walk him to the large suite we have, shaking my head the whole damn time. The bedrooms are separated by a lavish living room and kitchenette.
“Stay put. If she works at the bar, you’ll see her again.” Fucking hell. I never thought I’d see the day when he’d be so damn irresponsible. He’s barely old enough to drink, and after our parents were killed by drunk drivers, I never thought he’d get wasted.
“Wait, I can’t go to bed. I’ve got to get my woman and marry her,” he shouts, trying to get to his feet but stumbles back onto the bed.
“Not tonight, Romeo.”
He points a finger at me with one eye open. “You just want her for yourself.”
I chuckle at the drunken accusation because it makes no damn sense. I sit him on the bed and help him take off his shoes. “I don’t know her.”
“Trust me. If you saw her, you’d steal her from me.” He nods his head, agreeing with himself.
I’ve never once stolen anything from him, let alone a woman. “Bullshit. I haven’t been on a date since Mom and Dad died.”
“Well, that’s why. She’d make the perfect wife. Gorgeous and sexy.” His eyes have that starry faraway gaze, and I wonder if he’s serious. I doubt it, but I think it’s time for me to have this woman checked out. It’s too late to call my investigator friend, Sean would be able to find out more about her in a hurry. I’ll call him in the morning if I have to.
“Relax.”
“She’s perfect. I’m telling you, Cole. You’d love her.” He sighs and drops his head onto the pillow, passing out. I grab his phone and put in his passcode, unlocking it to find out where he was at before he stumbled back to the hotel.
According to the taxi message. He was at Maurice’s Tiki Bar last. I set his phone on the nightstand and leave his room. Once I’m in the hallway, I look up the bar and take down the address. It closes in an hour, giving me enough time to get down there. It’s in walking distance, so I set out to meet this woman.
I’m going to do everything I can to stop her from even thinking about my brother again. He doesn’t need to find a woman to chase, especially when we’re leaving in two days. It’s not like he can afford to marry her until he’s older. He graduates from school next semester, and I don’t want some woman messing that up for him. I lost out on finishing college because of my parents’ deaths, but I’m not letting Bishop lose sight of his future. I don’t care if she’s everything great, I don’t want a woman getting her claws so deep into him that he’ll do anything for her. Women try to dig their way into your pockets when they know there’s wealth. Since taking over my father’s company, I have had every female leach attempt to persuade me into taking them. None of that worked.
