“I was on my side of the sidewalk!” I screeched, making him wince at the sheer volume of my voice.

“Okay—okay,” he conceded, holding his hands up in a placating way that just added fuel to my fire. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you. I’ll buy you dinner and buy you a new phone.”

I gritted my teeth. “I don’t want either of those things from you,” I sneered. Shaking my head, I scoffed. “Fucking unbelievable.” I turned to storm back to the student center, my day officially off to a shitty start, but he gripped my wrist, flinging me back around to face him. I squeaked in alarm, my hands flying up to land on his very broad, hard, muscular chest.

“How about dinner at an amazing coffee shop here in town?” he asked me.

Now, that was appealing.

His tongue flicked out over his bottom lip. The urge to kiss him, to taste his bottom lip swept through me, momentarily making me go blind with lust. I blinked, only to find him smirking down at me, a knowing look in his eyes as if he knew how badly he was affecting me.

What the fuck was up with me?

“Let me take you out to dinner—with coffee—and replace your phone tonight,” he said once again.

Something about this guy warned me against him. He was too cocky, too confident. The way he had grabbed me—it was like he knew I wouldn’t scream at him to unhand me. It was like he was so sure of himself, he had nothing to worry about.

Danger lurked behind his eyes. I could see it.

But it was tantalizing.

I’d never been one for bad boys. To be honest, I tried my best to steer clear of them. They were nothing but trouble, and I wasn’t one for trouble. Honestly, I was basically a goody-two-shoes, and I was proud of that.

But something about this guy had me saying, “Yes.”

He grinned and tucked my hair behind my ear. Something in his eyes told me he knew I’d accept. Maybe I shouldn’t have. Maybe I should have changed my mind right then.

“I need your number,” he said, pulling his phone out of his pocket—his very expensive phone, might I add.

Without thinking twice about it, I rattled off my number to him. It wasn’t until after my phone pinged with a message from him that a tiny voice in the back of my head warned me that this was a bad decision.

But when he rubbed the pad of his thumb over my bottom lip, I was lost. My brain fogged over, and the only thing that existed was him.

“I look forward to it,” he said, his voice husky—raspy. It made my insides tingle.

He stepped around me. My brain screamed at me to run in the opposite direction. Fuck the coffee date. Fuck the new phone.

But the less logical part of my brain couldn’t wait to see him again this evening, and that part of my brain won out over the smarter part of me.

Lacie instantly shook her head at me when I stepped away from my closet, a frown on her face. “No. I cannot let you go on a date with a guy you swear is super-hot wearing that.”

After my catastrophic morning, I’d called her and complained about my coffee and the guy that had knocked into me. All she’d cared about was the guy, and she wanted to know every detail about him after I told her that he wanted to take me out to ‘make up for it’.

I frowned down at my jeans and t-shirt. I didn’t even own a “nice” top. I was a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. This was comfortable for me. Why would I buy things that weren’t comfortable, much less own them?

“That’s it. I’m taking you to my dorm,” she said, planting her hands on her hips.

I rolled my eyes. “Lacie, I’m not dressing up for this guy. Sure, he’s super fucking hot, but he spilled my coffee,” I bitterly reminded her. And I wasn’t letting that go anytime soon.

She threw her arms up in the air in exasperation. “Whatever. I give up.” I snorted. “I don’t even know why you have tits and a pussy. You might as well be a guy.”

At that, I barked out a laugh before I snatched up my broken phone, rolling my eyes at the text message on the screen.

I’ve been downstairs waiting for five minutes now. Are you standing me up? -Damien

I snorted. I wanted to stand him up—kind of. But at the same time, I was curious about him despite half of my mind screaming at me to run in the other direction from him, screaming at me to forget the spilled coffee and the broken phone and just run.

But I had a feeling even if I did run, Damien would only enjoy the chase.
