Then she was crying out, her body racked by convulsions that sent me spiraling over the edge, an animalistic groan erupting from my chest as I emptied myself into her in wave after wave of pulsing, throbbing bliss. It was so intense, I started to panic.

I can’t breathe, I thought. We burned up all the oxygen in the room. I can’t breathe.

Picking myself up off her, I gulped for air.

“Are you okay?” she asked breathlessly, placing her hands on my chest.

I nodded, but when I looked down at her, my heart felt like it might explode. Her face was familiar, but her expression was new—softer. Sweeter. More vulnerable. Like the show was over and now it was just us behind the curtain. No more acting.

The compressed sensation in my chest grew worse, like someone had wrapped a fist around my heart and was squeezing it like a lemon.

Bianca frowned. “Your heart is beating really fast. If you go into cardiac arrest and die, do I get the house?”

The pressure eased up, and I managed to laugh. “Trying to kill me?”

“Of course not. We haven’t even gotten to phase two yet.”

“Right.” I dragged myself off her and flipped onto my back.

“I’ll be right back,” she said, putting her glasses on and heading into the bathroom.

While she was gone, I closed my eyes and concentrated on inhaling and exhaling in steady, even breaths. But it was difficult, because every time I thought about what had just happened, my heart tried to jump out of my chest again. What the hell? Why did sex with Bianca have to be that good? My idea had been to impress her so much that she’d be tortured by the memory and no one would ever live up, but now I feared the person who’d be tortured was me. What woman was ever going to surprise me that way again? Who could make me laugh one minute and growl at her the next? Was it because I’d spent so many years being mad at her that the sex was so hot? Was it really never going to happen again? But I had ideas—so many ideas—about things I wanted to do to her.

I frowned. Fucking Bianca was supposed to satisfy an urge, not create a bigger one.

The bathroom door opened and she came out. After setting her glasses on the nightstand again, she hopped back onto the bed. A few fake rose petals flew off.

“What’s with the grumpy face?” she asked, stretching out on her side.

On my back, I put one arm behind my head and looked over at her. “I’m mad.”

“About what?”

“That the sex was so good.”

Her eyes lit up, and she reached over and slapped my chest. “Oh my God, same. I was just in the bathroom cleaning up and thinking how pissed I am at you.”

“At me!”

“Yes. How dare you have the magic-wand dick!”

I had to laugh. “As much as I would like to agree, there was no magic involved, Bianca. You told me what you wanted.”

She rolled her eyes. “I said like three things.”

“They were enough.” I hesitated. “I also think we just had some good chemistry. And there was a lot of . . . tension built up.”

She sighed. “Yeah. That was the best sex I’ve ever had. But I shouldn’t tell you that—you’ll get smug.”

“I was already smug from the magic-wand dick thing.”

She narrowed her eyes at me. “No more compliments for you tonight.”

“Hey, I earned them. Didn’t I do a good job with my lines?”

“Yes,” she admitted. “A-plus work going off book.”

“Speaking of A-plus work . . .” I paused reverently.

“What?”

“That blowjob.”

She grinned. “You liked it?”

“Um, yeah.”

“Good.” She fell onto her back and put her hands behind her head, closing her eyes.

“Now who’s smug?” I teased, rolling to my side next to her.

Her eyes closed, but her smile remained. I couldn’t resist tracing her lips with my fingers. She started to laugh. “What are you doing?”

“I don’t know. I just like your mouth.”

“I bet you do. I let you put your dick in it.”

“Hey, I liked it before that.” I nudged her side. “I just never said anything about it.”

She opened her eyes and looked at me. “Why not?”

“I don’t know. Things just aren’t like that with us. We trade insults, not sweet nothings.”

“True.” She sighed and closed her eyes again.

Unable to resist, I moved my hand to the far side of her hip and pulled her closer to me. “So that whole exceptions clause thing. When exactly does that expire?”

“I don’t know. Midnight?”

I glanced at the digital clock on her nightstand. “Guess what? It’s only eleven-thirty-five.”

She looked at me in surprise. “You want to do it again?”

“Why not?”

“I don’t know. Because we already satisfied our curiosity.”

I shook my head. “Sorry, but my curiosity is not nearly satisfied.”

“No?”

“No.” Taking her by the waist, I hauled her on top of me so she straddled my hips. “For instance, I’m very curious about what you look like as a reverse cowgirl.”
