“Okay, Daddy.” She watched as he moved around the room, stripping the bed and replacing the sheets. Her face heated as she saw how wet the sheets were, soaked from his come and hers, their sweat, and the faint evidence of him taking her virginity.
When he was done, he lifted her into his arms again and deposited her in the middle of the bed. “Lie down. I’ll get you a bottle.”
While he was gone, she crawled to the side of the bed, snagged Molly and her pacifier from the nightstand, and snuggled up right in the center of the mattress where he seemed to like her.
She was naked except for her diaper, but she didn’t care. She liked having his skin against hers when he held her. It was so much nicer than having a nightie between them.
He returned a few minutes later, shaking a bottle. He turned off the lights, climbed in next to her, and brought the nipple to her lips. “Drink, Little doll.”
She hummed around the nipple as she sucked. She hadn’t realized how thirsty she was until she started draining the bottle. It tasted so good, and she noticed her trembling subsided as she took in the calories.
He only had to jiggle the nipple a few times when it was almost empty to encourage her to finish all of it before he set it aside, guided her paci from her hand to her mouth, and tucked her doll into her arms.
Suzette had never felt so fantastic in her life as she did when he turned her to her side and spooned her from behind. He even kissed her neck. “I love you to pieces, Little doll,” he whispered.
She was surprised by his words of love, and she wanted to respond, but the pacifier kept her from answering, and seconds later, she fell into a deep sleep.
Chapter Twelve
“How is she?” Arion asked several hours later when Brock finally extricated himself from the bed, snagged his phone and the monitor, and left his sleeping mate to continue her slumber.
“She’s amazing.” He smiled as he stepped into the living room and lowered himself into the armchair. Surprisingly, he felt rested. Even though he’d been up nearly all night, he’d slept hard with her in his arms.
“I know Jezebel will be glad to hear that. She’s been bugging me from the moment I told her Suzette had been abducted.”
Brock winced. “Didn’t you send her into a panic?”
“No. I waited until you had her in your home to tell her. Because yes, she would have lost it,” Arion admitted.
“Well, Suzette needs some time to adjust. When I think she’s ready, I’ll let you know, but for now, I think it’s best if we don’t travel to other people’s homes or have female guests. I have no idea what sort of risk we’re dealing with. I wouldn’t want to endanger your mate, too.”
“I hear you.” He sighed. “What do you think we’re dealing with?”
“I don’t know, but I find it interesting that every time I have a discussion with someone, the question is always what and not who.”
“True. I think most of us have accepted the fact that whoever this is, he’s not one of us,” Arion suggested.
Brock slumped back in his chair, his gaze drifting to the monitor in his lap every few seconds. He was glad that he’s made the decision to add a camera to the corner of his bedroom. His mate was out cold. She’d been exhausted. He wasn’t surprised. He drew in a breath and focused on his conversation. “Could he be human?”
“We’ve considered the option, but it seems unlikely. There hasn’t been a human in this part of the world in decades.”
“True, and Suzette says the man was average. If he were human, he would have to be way above average to have carried her up the mountain over his shoulder.”
“Exactly. Then there’s the fact that though several people spotted him in town, no one recognized him or his scent, and your brother was caught unaware yesterday morning.”
“So? Speculations? Wolf shifter from a neighboring pack?” Brock proposed.
“One who can block his scent?” Arion asked.
Brock sighed. “Fuck.”
“Yes, basically.” After a few moments of silence, Arion continued, “My father says you consummated your union so she could shift.”
“Yes. It seemed prudent. She understood the reasons.”
Arion chuckled. “You say that as if joining with her was a hardship.”
Brock laughed, too. “Not even close.”
“By the way…” Arion began. This had to be good. “You were awfully quick to insist on being the one to guard her during the night for the past two weeks. Makes me wonder if you didn’t perhaps lie to me about your knowledge of her and interest in her welfare for the past twenty years.”
Brock laughed harder, trying to keep his voice down so as not to wake his mate. It was true. He had pretended to have no interest in the identity of his mate for all the years that Arion spent watching Jezebel from afar.
