Dallas would be an excellent father. Little chestnut-haired children, both sons and daughters. A big family. Greer rolled his eyes at the beauty of the picture he painted inside his crazy head.

Tomorrow, life would return. Their future began. He concentrated on his cell phone and searched Ducky’s number. In all their rushed planning last week, Kailey had said Dallas would be home tonight. Greer couldn’t bring himself to wake Dallas to leave.

Greer pushed call and brought the phone to his ear. On the fourth ring, Ducky answered.

“Hey, Greer. What’s up?”

He decided on the truth, at least with Ducky. “Dallas’s sleeping. We had a long weekend. I would prefer not to wake him. I didn’t want you to worry.”

Straight forward, clear…vague. Why did he suddenly feel like he was telling Dallas’s secrets?

“Cool. He signed off on everything on Saturday morning. The website’s gone live and we’re connected to Secret now. Sales have already doubled. Tell Dallas for me. We have to ship those out tomorrow.”

“That’s great news. I’ll tell him in the morning. He should be home early,” Greer said.

“Cool.”

Greer smiled at the single word. His sign it was time to end the call. “Goodnight.”

“Yup.” The phone went dead. Greer lowered his, chuckling. What an interesting guy.

He heard footsteps on the floor behind him seconds before two strong arms wrapped around his waist.

“You’re so free, walking around naked.” Dallas’s chest pressed flush against his back as Greer slid a hand over Dallas’s arm until their fingers linked together. “I like you in bed with me.”

Dallas pressed his lips against Greer’s shoulder, sending a full body shiver racing along his skin. “I wanted to call Ducky and let him know you’d be home in the morning. In our planning last week, we told him you’d be home tonight.”

“Come to bed. You need to sleep,” Dallas said against his ear, letting him go until they were holding hands, Dallas’s naked body on display as he tugged Greer toward the bedroom. “You don’t take care of yourself properly. Sleep’s good.”

Greer grinned, watching the bounce of Dallas’s ass in his natural strut. God, his guy had swagger.

Chapter 34

“Where is he?” Kailey asked, swinging around on the barstool until she faced his front door. Greer looked over at the Echo to check the time. Almost seven thirty. The day hadn’t been easy. Greer’s carefully hidden anxiety had finally gotten the best of him.

He texted Dallas approximately an hour and a half ago, stating very clearly if Dallas didn’t arrive back there in a timely manner, Greer would be forced to come to Grand Prairie and find him. He’d tried to say it in such a way that he came off as witty and fun. Who knew if he’d accomplished a playful tone? They had parted ways twelve hours ago. Anything could have changed in the interim.

“He’ll be here,” Greer said, trying to sound convincing as he flipped the steaks over on the pan and seasoned the other side.

“Trust me.” Those were Dallas’s words in his last text exchange with Greer. He needed to believe in Dallas. Requiring an all-day Facetime session seemed stalkerish. He had wanted that though, even if he couldn’t figure out how to sell the idea to Dallas.

“Beau’s on his way,” Kailey said. He looked up to see her cell phone in her hands, her body still angled toward the door. “He wants to meet Dallas too.”

“You look ready to pounce, Kailey. He doesn’t even know you’re here. Don’t face the door like that,” Greer said, washing his hands then reaching for the full tray of food. With measured steps, hoping to tamp down his worry, Greer started toward the grill on the patio when his front door opened. He snapped his head that direction, air leaving his lungs in a whoosh of relief at the sight that met him.

Dallas’s handsome face appeared through the crack of the door he opened. He looked around until his gaze landed on Kailey, where it froze.

“Is this note for me?” Dallas gave a sidestep all the way in, holding the note Greer had hastily written. The one telling Dallas to come inside and meet them on the patio.

Greer’s shoulders relaxed now that Dallas had arrived. So much relief coursed through him that he pivoted around, heading toward his honey.

“I was afraid you’d knock instead of coming straight inside.” That information had Dallas closing the door. Greer met his guy in the foyer. Only now would he let himself admit he strongly doubted Dallas would come back. With everything Dallas had to deal with, it felt like a monumental step in the right direction. Greer lifted to steal a quick kiss. “I’m glad I didn’t have to come searching for you.”

“The army you said you’d deploy to find me made me nervous.” Dallas’s lighthearted banter spoke volumes about his lover’s head space. Dallas bent to kiss Greer, his smile beaming at him. Since his threat of a military manhunt had been so successful, he’d have to keep that tactic ready to use.
