Rushing back to Kate, I pull the sweater off and slide it onto her arms, buttoning it down the front. I comb my fingers through her matted hair, apparently Linc is not the only one who likes to knot and tug on hair. I can feel myself getting wet again thinking about him. Kate must see something on my face that tells her what I am thinking about.

“Fun, isn't it?” she asks, startling me from my daydream.

“Um, what’s that?” I ask.

“When they take charge. When they take you like they are starving and you are the last food on earth,” she replies with a smile and a wink.

“Yes, very much,” I answer laughing. The way Linc takes control of me during intimate times makes me feel like I’m his. I want to give my whole body to him. My only desire to please him.

She stands and I straighten her skirt, she doesn't look great with the sweater and skirt, but she is presentable. I wish Jenna was here, she knows how to make anything look good. Hell, she would probably rip one of the gold curtains off the window and woosh it around Kate like a magic trick, turning it into a million-dollar dress.

“So, this man, Mr. Kane, are you and him serious?” I ask her.

“Oh, no, dear, just having fun. Fredrick, Billy's late grandfather, is the only man I have or ever will love,” she answers, her face serious but sad. I nod in agreement and give her a little hug.

“Ready?” I ask in a cheery voice, trying to change the mood.

“Please, get me out of here,” she mutters, practically running for the door.

Heading back into the church, Kate and I spot Billy who is standing in the middle of the church in the aisle between the pews. Getting to the bottom of the stairs, he runs up to us and looks his grandma over, up and down. “What's going on, Grandma?” Concern wrinkles the sides of his eyes.

“Oh nothing... how are you?” she replies, like nothing has happened.

Billy looks over to me and his eyes go wide. He leaps the two steps between us and grabs my face, just like Linc had done back in the stairway at the condo. I jump, startled by his sudden action, not knowing why he is grabbing my face. “Jesus, C, what the fuck?” I then realize he has seen the red and blue mark on my face.

“Oh, it's nothing. I just ran into a shelf at the shop, you know, not paying attention,” I lie, waving my hand like it’s no big deal. He narrows his eyes at me and opens his mouth to say something but stops. Letting go of my chin, he nods and looks at me angrily before turning his attention back to his grandmother. Geeesh, why would that piss him off? I just shrug and proceed over to Pastor Ryan, who is standing by the large wooden entryway doors. He opens and holds the one on the right as I pass through with him following behind me. My jaw drops when I see Linc leaning against the wall next to the glass doors of the atrium. He smirks and his eyes travel up and down my body like he is undressing me right there. Butterflies fill my stomach, and I can feel my face go red, making his smirk turn into a full-blown smile. Remembering my manners, I turn to Pastor Ryan, who is still standing behind me.

“Thank you so much, Pastor Ryan, and I am so sorry this happened.” Before he has time to answer, I blurt out, “What's that for?” I point to a large white sheet of paper taped to the wall behind him. It has a thermometer drawn on it. It is colored in red about a quarter of the way up.

He turns to see what I am pointing at and answers. “Oh, that’s for a fundraiser. The area in red is where we are at, and that top line up there is where we need to go,” he explains, pointing to the bold dark line drawn just below the round top of the thermometer.

I nod and ask, “What's the fundraiser for?”

Looking back to me he answers. “New playground equipment for the children’s after school program we have here.”

“Oh, well that's nice. How does one donate to the fundraiser?” I ask, curious.

“Well, you see that metal box there under the thermometer?” he questions, pointing to a large locking metal box with a slit cut in the top. “People can put their donation in there or they can mail a check it they prefer.”

Walking over to the box, I open my purse and grab out the thousand dollars in cash I have made from my last few sales and start folding it before sliding it into the small slit in the top of the box. After five minutes of folding and shoving, I finally have it all in there. Turning back around, I see a nervous Pastor Ryan looking at the floor.
