“I’m going to wish for more of those,” he answered, pulling out a few pennies for her before throwing a handful of coins into the fountain.

Chapter Four

Lark shuffled some brochures at her desk. She didn’t come to work at the office often, but she’d needed to file some paperwork with her boss who was completely old-school and dependent on hard copies of documents. Pulling her thoughts away from her date with Wyatt for what felt like the seventieth time already today, Lark tried to focus on gathering the supplies she needed for the next two showings.

Their time together yesterday had been incredible. Despite Wyatt’s allergic reaction to the cats, it had gone so smoothly—like they’d known each other for a long time. He was easy to be with, a great conversationalist, and…

No thinking about kisses! she mentally scolded herself. That scorching kiss at her door resulted in her inviting him inside. To her astonishment, he had refused, stating it was too soon.

She had no doubt he was as into her as she was captivated by him. Lark couldn’t wait to see him that afternoon. She was going to show him some houses. After hesitating to mix business with pleasure, Lark had caved to his request to be his realtor. His home was important to her. It had to be as special as he was. Lark didn’t want to trust that responsibility to anyone else.

Even though today was Sunday, she’d suggested they go see a few houses this afternoon since Wyatt worked an early shift.

Glancing at her watch, she headed to the printer to pick up a few property profiles Lark thought Wyatt would be interested in seeing. He’d shared that he wanted a house he could make a home. Something in a safe neighborhood with space between the neighbors to ensure some privacy. His price range made choosing easier. Wyatt had money to invest in a home. That matched with the investigation she’d done on him. It was amazing what she could find online with a bit of persistence and knowledge of where to look.

Her phone rang just as she walked through the front doors, and she grinned broadly when she saw his name on the caller ID. “Hi, Wyatt. I’ve got a few places to show you. Want to meet me at the first? Let me get you the address.”

“How about if you show me the way?” he asked, drawing her attention with a wave as he stepped away from his car parked a few spaces from hers.

“That’s the old-school way of agents driving their clients around,” she joked, disconnecting the call to walk toward him.

“Some old fashion ways are still very effective,” he murmured, stepping forward to kiss her lightly.

Thrown off balance by his greeting, she rested one hand on his chest. The feel of his steady heartbeat under her fingers made her want to press herself against his body. Lark glanced over her shoulder to see if any of her colleagues were gawking at them. Only a few of her coworkers were in the office today.

“Sorry, kitten. I didn’t mean to embarrass you at work.”

She startled at the nickname and then decided she kind of liked it. “No. It’s okay. Kissing clients isn’t step one in the endorsed greeting suggestions in the agent handbook, but I don’t mind,” she tried to joke.

“Feel free to come kiss me at will when I’m at work,” he teased.

She loved it when he created a joke that seemed to bond them closer. Each tiny part of him she discovered made her want to get to know him better. Lark would never have guessed that he had such an easy sense of humor when she’d met him on duty. It made her want to know what other surprises he had in store for her.

Lark nodded toward his car. “I’ll ride with you. I have a feeling you know this city better than I do even though you’ve lived here such a short time.”

“Probably. Hopefully, you aren’t taking me to the places where I spend the most time.”

“Safe and secure were your two top qualifications for a neighborhood, closely followed by private. I’ve got some great places to show you. Let’s start with this one.”

She read off the address for him as she opened the GPS on her phone. “I’ll tell you when to turn.”

“Did you sleep well last night?” he asked as he pulled out of the parking lot.

“I did. How about you? Did you sneeze all night?”

“Not a single time. Those allergy tablets CC keeps behind the counter work perfectly every time.”

“How do you think Oreo is today?” Lark asked with a fond smile at the memory of the adorable black and white kitten.

“I think she’s in heaven. I’d bet she slept with that little boy for a couple of hours before climbing into the parents’ bed to snuggle with them. She’s a smart kitty. She’ll bond with everyone.”
