The decision to take his assigned vehicle home came back to bite him on the ass. And Rez was damn sure it added more guilt to Decker’s conscience.

With his jaw as hard as steel, the big man ground out, “Now I’m done.”

Wearing a blank expression, Nox nodded and headed back to his truck. Finn shared a glance with Rez, then shrugged.

Okay then, he guessed they really were leaving the prospect out in the cold with his wrists and ankles still bound.

Damn pity.

He went back to the car with Decker hot on his heels. As soon as they were settled, Rez pulled the bandana off his face and tossed it on the dashboard before glancing over at his brother. Was that a vein throbbing at his temple? “Just to be clear… Are we really going to leave him here like that?”

Decker turned to look at him. “Do you care what happens to that motherfucker? Especially after what he did to Sloane and Val?”

Rez’s answer was to start the car and shift it into Drive. He shot a big smile at Decker before taking his foot off the brake pedal. “Where we headed from here?”

“Wheeling.”

He shouldn’t have even bothered to ask. “Should we give Crew a heads up that we’ll be out of pocket for a while?”

“Nope. He needs us, he knows how to get a hold of us.”

“True that. Let’s get ‘er done.”

Chapter Twenty-One

They stopped past the Pennsylvania border at a travel plaza on I-70. After a piss break and the purchase of four extra-large cups of coffee and some donuts, they met back out by the vehicles.

“Wish that motherfucker had a fucking gun. We could’ve said it was self-defense,” Nox grumbled after taking a long sip of his steaming coffee.

“Even if it was a clean shoot, it would cause a whole bunch of bullshit and headaches,” Finn said. “Better to tip off Viper and let those ruthless fuckers deal with him. They won’t play when it comes to one of their prospects stealing from them.”

Rez agreed. “True. Let them handle him. He’ll get what’s coming to him without us getting our hands dirty.”

“If the cold or the coyotes don’t take care of him first,” Decker said.

“Wouldn’t that be a damn shame,” Finn murmured.

“A real damn shame,” Rez agreed with a smirk before lifting his cardboard coffee cup to his lips.

Since he had a feeling the search for Sadie would take a while, he would need a lot more than one cup of coffee to stay awake during their search. Especially after he scarfed down two Boston cream donuts in two minutes flat. The carb overload might counteract the caffeine’s much needed effects.

“Our main focus right now is to find Sadie and get this shit over with,” Decker said. “And hope to fuck she’s alive when we locate her.”

“Since we don’t know which motel or even if that fucker was lying, do we want to split up into pairs to look?” Finn asked.

“Think that’s the best plan,” Nox agreed. “We’ll cover more ground that way.”

Decker nodded. “Agreed. Every motel you clear, text the group the name, so we don’t overlap and waste time. This is going to take a long fucking time as it is.”

It sure fucking was.

“If we don’t find her, a coyote will be the last thing T-Bag needs to worry about. I’ll be the one ripping his goddamn throat out.”

“Damn, Deck,” Finn murmured.

“This has gone on for far too long.”

“If we don’t find her in Wheeling, you raising the white flag?” Rez asked him. They couldn’t search for Sadie forever.

Decker pursed his lips for second, then blew out a harsh breath. “We’re going to find her.”

Rez wished he had his brother’s confidence. “Yeah, we are,” he agreed anyway.

“Failure’s not a fucking option,” Nox said.

“Fuck failure,” Rez said.

Decker asked, “Everyone have both T-Bone’s and Sadie’s pictures on their phone?”

Everyone confirmed they did.

“All right, let’s do this. I’ll pair with Finn. Rez, you and Nox team up. We need to be quick, but thorough. We’ll hit every damn motel in and around Wheeling, starting from the center and working our way out. We’ll keep expanding our search ’til we find her.”

“Deck…” Finn started with a warning in his tone.

Decker shook his head. “No. We’re finding her. No matter how long it takes. If Crew has a problem with us being gone, I’ll handle it. Any lodging that’s expensive, skip. No way would T-Bone pay to put her up at somewhere like The Ritz. He picked somewhere cheap, that will accept cash and where they mind their own damn business. He wants to make money, not spend it.”

“Let’s roll,” Rez yelled.

They left one vehicle at the truck stop and took the other two farther into West Virginia where they split up. Deck and Finn went deep into Wheeling while Rez and Nox decided to stay on the outskirts and start there.
