Yep. Empty.

He was alone in Sapphire’s bed.

He hoped his promise to make it up to her would happen this morning. Maybe she was simply emptying her bladder and on her way back to the bed. And him.

So he could give her more of his awesomeness.

He snorted and rolled until he could tag his phone from the nightstand that happened to be on the opposite side of where he fell asleep.

At least she hadn’t kicked his ass out the second he came.

She probably should have. If he was normal, he would be embarrassed that he had to rush fucking her.

But thank fuck he wasn’t normal or embarrassed.

Why? Because he got to fuck Sapphire. And if she’d been pissed about it being a short fuck, he imagined she would’ve kicked his ass out immediately afterward, not let him fall asleep next to her. Or at least told him there wouldn’t be a “next time” when he mentioned it out of desperation.

His lips curled into a grin. But, yeah, unless he did or said something stupid, there would be a next time. However, he thought the second time would be after they got a couple hours of sleep.

He pushed the power button on his cell phone, used his fingerprint to unlock it and when he saw the time, he blinked. And blinked again.

He shot straight up to a seated position.

Holy fuck. It was two in the afternoon.

Two!

He quickly checked to make sure he didn’t miss any important texts or voicemails from either his mother or anyone on the task force.

Nope. Just his mother’s daily morning text of: Buenos días, mi niño guapo. Te quiero. LOL!

No matter how many times he explained to her that LOL meant “laugh out loud,” she still insisted it meant “lots of love.”

After a dozen times, he gave up. He only hoped she wasn’t commenting “LOL” on Facebook posts when a friend or family member announced a loved one was sick, badly injured or worse, had died.

No matter what, the woman was like clockwork. She texted him every damn morning after he upgraded her old flip phone to a smart phone and showed her how easy it was to use for texting.

He thought teaching her to text would cut down on phone calls, especially while he worked, but fuck no, it didn’t.

And if he couldn’t answer…

A sigh slipped from him.

He loved his mother to pieces, but she could be smothering.

Fuck. He didn’t want to think about the woman who gave him life right now. Not when he was in Sapphire’s bed.

With no Sapphire.

He climbed out of bed and to his feet. He didn’t bother to get dressed and instead, only tugged on his jeans. He still held out hope for round two.

And three.

And maybe even four.

First things first, though, he needed to empty his screaming bladder. After that disaster was averted, he needed to find the person who lived in this apartment to judge her willingness to go those rounds and if she was, drag her back to bed.

Heading into the hallway, he heard someone shuffling around from somewhere in the apartment. Maybe from the kitchen, though he couldn’t smell breakfast cooking. Or coffee brewing.

Coffee would be the bomb right about now.

He popped into the bathroom, and when he went to wash his hands, the tired, ragged-looking man in the mirror gave him a jump scare.

Damn. If he was a woman, he would’ve abandoned the bed, too, to escape the zombie looking back at him.

But, hey, as long as his cock and tongue worked, did it matter what he looked like?

Two more steps down the hallway, he found the door to the second bedroom open. He popped his head inside and…

Damn. It wasn’t a bedroom at all. Or at least that wasn’t what Sapphire was using it for.

The small room was turned into what seemed to be a walk-in closet. It was jam-packed with racks.

Several were filled with shoes. Both regular everyday shoes and also with those platform heels strippers—and gentlemen’s club hostesses—wore. Various styles of dresses in a rainbow of colors filled more racks. Another held other kinds of outfits. Probably similar to the dominatrix getup she wore last night on stage.

Now he knew why she didn’t have money to spend on a better place. Her car and her clothing.

At least some of the clothing made her money.

But still…

Add in accessories and purses and whatever else women wore and bought…

He heard more shuffling and then caught a flash of movement in the back corner.

“You made this into a walk-in closet?” he called out.

Her dark head popped up. “You’re awake.” She stepped out from behind another packed rack and waved her hand around. “I had no choice. I need all of this for work.”

He stepped over to a smaller rack with longish colorful dresses made of sequins. The kind she wore when she used to hostess. “You ever wear sweats?”
