He’s up off the deck chair where he must’ve been napping. “What? You okay?”
I let out a happy shriek, plowing into his chest. “You’re going to be a grandfather!”
“Say what?”
Ethan chuckles behind me. “We’re pregnant.”
“What?” Dad repeats, his voice filled with disbelief as he pushes me back and stares at my stomach. “You’re pregnant? My baby’s expecting a baby?”
Ethan’s arm falls around my shoulders. “We are.”
I start to laugh. “Ethan has morning sickness with me.”
“It wasn’t food poisoning?” Dad asks, his lips curling up in a wide smile.
“Nope,” Ethan answers.
Dad starts to laugh. “That’s hilarious.” When he finally stops laughing, he grabs hold of Ethan’s shoulder. “But I’m not surprised with the bond the two of you have.”
We all take a seat on the porch, my heart overflowing with happiness.
With our dads discussing how they’re going to convert one of the guest rooms into a nursery and make the house safe for a baby, Ethan places his hand on my stomach, like he’s been doing the past two months.
My eyes dart to his face. “You’ve been doing that for a while. Did you know?”
He shakes his head. “Just feel the need to touch you. Now I know why.”
Placing my hand on top of his, I can’t stop smiling.
Ethan looks at me with all the love in the world shining from his eyes. “I live for you, my soul.”
Leaning over, I press a kiss to his mouth, our joined hands on my stomach, protecting the life we created.
