Bethany shakes her head, stating the obvious. “You really are head over heels for the bear shifter.”

“I thought we’d already established that.” Mabel sighs again and turns to watch Thorne rinse off Clay’s humongous black SUV. When the oldest Bearly boy sprays his youngest brother with the hose, another freaking fight breaks out. My stupid body still turns to mush whenever the youngest Bearly brother is around, but I’m learning to ignore the sensation. And it soothes my anger a little watching Wilder get his ass kicked by his older brother.

When Wilder stretches to get a good shot, his tight t-shirt rides up, giving me a great view of his six-pack and hot muscular chest, causing my stupid girly parts to wake up and tingle. I should be used to these feelings, but they still shock me a little. “I’m not going to lie. Wet, muscular men, rolling around on the ground, trying to punch each other’s lights out definitely revs my engine.” The freaking annoying thoughts cause my mouth to run off without consulting my brain. Darn. I’m going to have to fight harder to hide my inconvenient feelings from my sisters.

“You’re just happy to see Wilder get his ass kicked.” Mabel looks over at Bethany and raises her eyebrows as they hold a silent conversation.

“That’s true, too.” I hold up my lemonade glass and toast, “To watching the Bearly Brothers act like idiots.” No matter how much I try, I can’t seem to shake the unwelcome feelings that have been bombarding me continuously since I first met Wilder Bearly.

I notice a big dirt smudge Thorne missed on one side of the SUV and decide to redirect a little of my anger with the youngest Bearly brother at him. Leaning over the porch railing, I point to the massive black vehicle. “I think you missed a spot on the left side.”

Anger flashes through Wilder’s eyes as he spins around and glares at me while growling, “Fuck no.” I force myself not to step back as he storms over to me. “I can show my brother what he’s missing. I don’t need your help, princess.”

A red haze covers my eyes as my fingers grasp the wooden banister. I’m about to nail the youngest Bearly brother to the wall when Thorne rushes over to step between us. “Why don’t we go to our separate corners for a little breather?” My sister’s mate roars, and Wilder turns to storm off while muttering under his breath.

My sigh of relief dies in my throat when Thorne turns to my sister and wiggles his eyebrows. “I’m almost done. I’m looking forward to that back rub you promised me.”

I gag for real this time as I notice Wilder glaring at me from across the large driveway. Next to me, Bethany hisses under her breath, “I vote for neutering all bear shifters.”

Now, I wouldn’t go that far flashes through my mind before I’m able to stop it. Taking a deep breath, I realize my heart and mind are battling these crazy feelings, and right now, my heart is way the heck ahead.

“I’m going to head home.” I can’t take seeing the big jerk anymore today. One side of me is pining away for Wilder while the other side wants to kick his butt. Every morning, I wake up hoping these crazy feelings for the bear shifter are a thing of the past, but it hasn’t happened so far. I’m pretty sure the big jerk already owns me, heart and soul.

“I’ll ride home with you.” Bethany pushes back from the table and stands to follow me. “Let’s blow this popsicle stand.” Even my sister’s silliness can’t lift my mood.

I’m in so much trouble here.

“You’re a dumbass, son.” My father shakes his head sadly and walks away. My parents have let me know how much they disapprove of the way I’ve handled my relationship with Cora. Momma Bear grumbles under her breath every time I walk by while my dad verbally expresses his displeasure every chance he gets.

As I watch my ridiculously dressed oldest brother cuddle his new mate, I feel my resolve to fight this mating dissipate. In its place, hunger, desire, and the determination to make Cora mine take over.

Goddamnit. For the life of me, I can’t even remember why I struggled with the idea of finding my mate in the first place. The universe sent me the most stunning, sugary-sweet, sassy mate in the world, and I turned my nose up at the gift. I’m ashamed of myself for acting like a spoiled rotten jerk. Fuck me.

My inner bear stops giving me the silent treatment and mentally smacks me on the head, muttering, “Stubborn dipshit,” as I finally wake up to reality. There’s no fighting fate, and I was a dumbass for even trying. I should’ve been reveling in the knowledge that the universe brought my one eternal mate to me instead of acting like a fucking idiotic motherfucker.
